Infrared Sauna Treatment

Most people have used a sauna at their local gym or recreation centre because they’ve heard about the health benefits. After 20 minutes of extreme heat, you generally feel more relaxed and your muscles ache a little less.

What if we told you that you can get the benefits of a sauna without enduring the extreme (humid) heat?

An infrared sauna treatment is a great alternative to regular saunas because it uses light to create heat, which warms your body directly without warming the air around you. The treatment is a favourite for our clients at Cryospa who cannot tolerate the heat of conventional saunas, as the infrared sauna produces far lower temperatures in comparison.

At Cryospa, our clients say that an infrared sauna treatment feels like an intense workout, where sweating is intense and your heart rate increased.

How Does an Infrared Sauna Work?

Infrared sauna treatments use infrared lamps instead of conventional heat to penetrate your body tissue, which heats up your body before heating up the air.

In an infrared sauna, approximately 20% of the heat in an infrared sauna goes to heating the air while 80% directly heats up the body. This allows the heat to penetrate more deeply into the body, resulting in more intense sweats while increasing your core body temperature up to 2 degrees.

For comparison, infrared saunas usually operate between 48°C – 70°C, compared to dry saunas that generally operate at a toasty 78°C – 90°C.

What Are The Benefits of an Infrared Sauna

An infrared sauna treatment offers similar benefits to using a traditional sauna, but without the extreme temperatures.

There are studies that have looked into the benefits of infrared sauna and its effect on chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, type 2 diabetes, headaches and rheumatoid arthritis.

The infrared sauna benefits are associated with an increase in blood circulation; better blood circulation means that vitamins and minerals are delivered to cells all around the body efficiently and quickly so that the body recovers and heals faster.

Some of the notable infrared sauna benefits that our clients enjoy include detoxification, relief from sore muscles, weight loss and relaxation.

One of the most recognised infrared sauna benefits is detoxification, helping you to release built-up toxins such as alcohol, heavy metals and nicotine from your body.

Relief from Sore Muscles and Joints

Much like cryotherapy, infrared sauna benefits include relief from soreness, inflammation and stiffness by improving blood circulation and promoting detoxification.

Sauna light therapy is helpful in the treatment of sprains, joint stiffness, muscle spasms, arthritis and muscle aches and pains.

Weight Loss

Infrared sauna treatments may assist in weight loss through increasing your metabolism, as your body produces extra sweat to cool down and pumps more blood around your body.

For those who don’t enjoy running, you might be interested to know that an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association likened the results from regular use of an infrared sauna to the cardiovascular effects of running!

Sauna light therapy at Cryospa offers you a sanctuary to relax your body, destress your mind and feel renewed!

The treatment is believed to move the body into a parasympathetic state, which induces healing and restoration.
