Traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air which in turn warms our body. An infrared sauna is different because it uses light to create heat and warms your body directly without warming the air around you.
Many people find saunas appealing because it causes reactions akin to light exercise such as sweating and slightly increased heart rate. Infrared saunas produce these results at lower temperatures compared to traditional saunas which make them more accessible to people who cannot tolerate the heat of conventional saunas.
How Does An Infrared Sauna Work?
These saunas use infrared panels instead of conventional heat to penetrate tissues that heat up your body. Infrared saunas usually operate between 48°C and 70°C. According to infrared sauna manufacturers only 20% of the heat goes to heating the air while 80% directly heats up the body. This allows the heat to penetrate more deeply into the body resulting in more intense sweats while increasing your core body temperature up to 2 degrees.
Benefits of Infrared Sauna
There are studies that have looked into the benefits of infrared sauna and its effect on chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, type2 diabetes, headaches and rheumatoid arthritis. Even if you did not have these disease regular infrared sauna treatments can help improve sleep, aid in detoxification of the body, lessen chronic fatigue, recover from muscle soreness, rejuvenate skin and brighten the complexion.
These benefits are associated with the increase in blood circulation which occurs during infrared sauna therapy. Better blood circulation means that vitamins and minerals are delivered to cells all around the body efficiently and quickly so that the body recovers and heals faster. According to Dr. Rhonda Patrick, frequency of sauna use can impact longevity.
Aside from this, infrared sauna treatments help you to de-stress which can lead to a boost in the immune system and p heal chronic diseases.
